In this fantasy, written by William Goldmanseveral, odd characters create a unique and dreamy reality, including Westley,–a farm boy turned dastardly pirate–Princess Buttercup–the most beautiful woman in the world–and Inigo–a Spaniard willing to fight anyone and anything for revenge. Follow along with the storyteller, a father reading the story to his son, as Westley experiences near death, Princess Buttercup gets kidnapped, returned, held against her will and rescued again and plenty of memorable and wacky characters make appearances. Not only will this book connect you with the characters, but it will leave you in a daze when you return to reality. 


Ender’s Game

Ender’s Game, written by Orson Scottcard, follows the story of a young boy named Ender Wiggin, a child genius chosen by the international military to save Earth from the buggers. Convinced by military leaders to fight in simulated battles against their enemy, Ender becomes an important piece in defeating the buggers. Meanwhile, his siblings depart on a different mission, leaving Ender with no family to confide in during his time in the military fleets and with little capability of making friends. In the end, the plot twists will leave you spinning, empathizing with Ender and wondering about the future of Ender’s universe. 


The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide

Written by Douglas Adams, The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide contains six stories, five of which are full novels. Each story takes place in the same universe, beginning with Arthur Dent’s story as a normal human, taken from Earth by Ford Prefect, a researcher for The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide. As time continues, Arthur searches for answers to questions like “What is the question to the ultimate answer?” In each adventure, Arthur meets new characters like Zaphod Beeblebrox, a two-headed alien and Trillian, Zaphod’s girlfriend. Boredom will not find you as you get swept up in Arthur’s adventures, his attempts to save the world and his search for answers to questions you will want, like “Why did all the dolphins disappear?”
