Some tips from experience –

Bring travel size liquids. If you’re traveling on an airplane, remember to not bring any liquids over 5oz. on your carry on. From personal experience, pack your full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in a zip lock baggy or a closed bag because after being banged around on the flight and handled roughly by security, you might end up with conditioner all of your clothes in your suitcase. Woops. So make sure to keep those in secure and closed baggies, or just buy some small traveling sizes once you arrive.

Don’t wear brand new anything. If you’ll be on your feet on all day or dancing around on a beach for days straight – don’t wear new shoes/clothes. It takes some time to break in new shoes or get used to new items of clothing, so either wear them now around the house and break them in, or don’t bring them. Otherwise, you’ll end up with blisters bursting open in your brand new shoes after wearing them all day, walking around downtown. Not recommended.

Bring options. Having options doesn’t mean you’ll need to over-pack – and in fact, you shouldn’t. Just pack smart. Include clothing that can be worn on your daily adventures and then dressed up slightly with a different pair of shoes and a scarf.

Dry shampoo for sure. For girls, it’s worth investing in some dry shampoo for your trip. You’ll likely be too busy having fun to want to wash and style your hair everyday, so invest in some high-quality dry shampoo to keep your style lasting an extra few days longer.

Bring a water bottle. If possible, bring your own water bottle that you can refill the whole trip. Not only will it save you money, but you aren’t wasting a bunch of plastic water bottles and you can constantly refill it.

Speaking of a water bottle, DRINK WATER. No matter where you are, but especially if you plan on drinking at the beach, you will get dehydrated fast. So remember to drink lots of water and drink often. The worst thing that could happen is getting really ill or sick while being away from home and loved ones.

Keep your important travel documents, IDs, cash, and credit cards in a safe place. In one that you know they won’t fall out or get lost in. And if you plan on drinking all day, make sure it’s accessible for a “drunko skunko” to find and put back securely.

Hooking up? Remember to pack condoms and/or birth control pills, whether you’re planning on hooking up or not. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t get taken. We’re not trying to sound dramatic. Although you’re at the beach or at a skii resort to have fun, there may be people there for other reasons to take advantage of college kids on vacation. Especially at popular Spring Break destinations. Stay with your group and friends and don’t wander off alone. You may think it seems safe and there’s plenty of people around, but that makes it that much easier to be quickly snatched without anyone seeing because there’s so much going on. So stay with your group and don’t go anywhere alone. It’s not worth the risk. Take the extra step to even share your location with your group, just in case. Especially if you’re under the influence and not in your right state of mind. Have fun, but also stay safe – that should always come first.
