Foods You Should Be Eating More Of

Whenever we’re hungry and want a snack to eat, we go to our pantry and find that it’s mostly filled with junk food. If there is a healthy food option, we tend to go with junk food, because it tastes better. Doing so does not give us the nutrients we need for that extra boost we could use. Try these quick and easy foods if you need something to give your body a lift!

Hummus

Hummus is full of protein and fiber and can help prevent heart disease. You can eat it as a healthy snack by dipping carrots and celery in it; or you can just eat it plain! You can also replace it with mayo when making a sandwich (which adds a lot of flavor to it). You can either buy it from the store already made, or you can make it at home.

Oats

Oats are full of a lot of nutrients. They help reduce the risk of heart disease and can fill you up quickly. There are many ways to eat them. The main example is oatmeal. You can  have plain oatmeal or you can add different toppings/spices to it. Raspberries, strawberries, brown sugar, or cinnamon are all great toppings. Overnight oats are a quick and easy way to help give you a balanced breakfast in the morning.

Nuts

Pistachios, almonds, cashews, peanuts.. there are so many to choose from. Nuts have many nutrients in them that help maintain your body’s health. Peanuts, for example, are an excellent source of folate, which helps with brain development and may even prevent cognitive decline. Cashews on the other hand help give you a boost of energy and are great to snack on between classes!

Yogurt

Depending on whether you get light yogurt or not, it can contain up to 30-40 percent of ones calcium needs. It also contains high amounts of protein. Yogurt is super easy to squeeze into your meals and can be eaten in a variety of ways. You can eat it plain, as a yogurt parfait, or make a fruit smoothie, which can make it taste even better!

Avocados

Personally, one of the greatest fruits to exist (yes, it’s not a vegetable!) is the avocado. Avocados are extremely healthy for the heart. They are a great source of vitamin C, E, and K; while also helping maintain a healthy cholesterol level. Avocados can be used in many ways when it comes to food. A very popular meal is the classic avocado toast. Making or buying guacamole is never a bad idea (a great excuse to go to chipotle!). This popular fruit is also a great accent to any ordinary meal, like a salad for example. There are many easy ways to incorporate it to your diet and not regret a single one!
