Galentine’s Day: Trading in Tears and Tissues for Laughs and Lady Friends

Alright, let’s be honest — being single on Valentine’s Day ‘kinda low key sucks. Turning every corner to find an obnoxious couple exchanging chocolates and grotesquely poetic “I love you’s”, frantically scrolling past the sappy Instagram captions, promising yourself that it’s not worth it, but secretly staying up until 2 a.m. crying over a pint of Ben and Jerry’s cursing their endearing sentiments.

…ENOUGH. Picture this: It’s February 13th, you’re sporting your favorite PJs, you just ordered three boxes of Insomnia Cookies, a captivating Ryan Gosling clinging to Rachel McAdams fills your T.V. screen, and your girl gang is knocking at your door. Welcome to Galentine’s Day, an entire day of the year devoted to you and your girls.

In the wise words of Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope, “It’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas.”

No matter how you decide to celebrate — breakfast or brownies, acknowledging the friends that you do have in your life can turn anyone’s Valentine’s pity party into a day of honoring yourself and the people that helped you become the boss babe you are. Need some ideas on how to throw the best Galentine’s Day? We’ve got you covered:
